What is Naturopathy?
Naturopathy incorporates the use of nutrition, herbs, and lifestyle advice to influence and change the biochemical processes of the body, helping to reduce disease.
Naturopathy is a non-invasive form of medicine that aims to improve health throughout all body systems, by using nutrition, herbs, and lifestyle changes to affect the various system frameworks of the body.
As naturopaths, we focus on your presenting signs, symptoms, and test results to allow us to understand the biochemistry and processes of your body. This allows us to improve the body’s function of these systems.
Naturopathy is a complementary therapy, with both diagnostic tools and treatment carried out.
What to expect during a treatment?
Many private health insurance policies will partially fund naturopathy for appropriate conditions.
Naturopathy Consultation
Naturopathy can benefit your overall health and well-being of your body’s systems. Our naturopaths can also help with your nutrition, which includes advice on long term health management. Treatment is guided by your preferences. Our naturopaths like to use nutrition and food as medicine as the first point of call. They then like to address lifestyle factors that may help your condition. Lastly, they will use herbs and supplements to help you achieve your goals. Other prevention advice can include:
- Stretching exercises
- Posture
- Breathing
- Stress reduction
- Exercise suggestions
- Sleep health
If there are signs of a serious condition, such as cancer, etc, our naturopaths may refer and direct the patient towards medical and specialised treatment.
Are there any risks having a Naturopath treatment?
Our naturopaths are fully qualified practitioners. This is REALLY important as they understand drug interactions, disease processes, and contraindications. They will review all of these with your treatment plan. If you have any concerns, please do not be afraid to ask.
So what is the difference between seeing a Naturopath and self-prescribing??
It is no secret that natural medicine can add up. We try our best to keep the cost affordable.
Self-prescribing or taking advice from a person that is not qualified can be dangerous. Our naturopathy training is in-depth covering biochemistry, pathology, and science. For this reason, we harbour a good understanding of the disease processes and how to affect them. We also understand simple principles that you will not get from a person that is not qualified. For example, having coffee and caffeine with your iron supplement will inhibit the absorption of your iron supplement, you may as well not take it. All of this information is important as part of your recovery.
